It is widely used for cutting small-diameter logs, forestry residues such as branches and twigs, and wood processing leftovers including veneer offcuts, slabs, cores, and waste veneer. Beyond traditional wood materials, the Drum Chipper Machine is also capable of handling non-wood raw materials such as hemp stalks, reeds, and bamboo, making it a versatile solution for biomass fuel, paper-making, and wood-based panel industries.
Raw Materials for Drum Wood Chipper
The drum wood chipper is mainly used for cutting small-diameter logs, forestry residues (such as branches and twigs), and wood processing leftovers (such as veneer offcuts, slabs, cores, and waste veneer). It can also be used for cutting non-wood materials such as hemp stalks, reeds, and bamboo.
Main Structure of Drum Wood Chipper
Frame
The frame is welded from high-strength steel plates, serving as the foundation of the whole machine. The base knife holder is integrated with the frame and is used for mounting the bottom knife. The bottom knife is secured to the holder with high-strength bolts and a pressure block. The knife holder can be easily removed through side openings in the frame wall and is fixed by two clamping keys. Chips fall through the screen holes and are discharged from the bottom of the frame. Oversized chips are broken again by a crushing rod mounted on the frame.
Knife Drum
The knife drum is the working part of the chipper, welded from steel plates (for small models, it is solid). It has good rigidity and inertia and undergoes dynamic balance testing. The main shaft and knife drum are connected with a locking device or key, ensuring simple, reliable assembly and disassembly. Both ends of the main shaft are supported by self-aligning roller bearings, fixed to the frame. Two flying knives are mounted on the drum and fixed with bolts and pressure blocks.
Feeding Mechanism
The upper feeding mechanism includes the upper feed roller seat, feed roller, feed roller shaft, swing shaft, and reducer. The lower feeding mechanism consists of the feed roller, support roller, feed roller shaft, and reducer. The large, heavy feed rollers with coarse teeth press the raw materials and feed them evenly to the cutting position, ensuring chip quality and length. The staggered teeth of the rollers also help clean debris.
Feeding Device
The chipper uses either a belt conveyor or a vibrating feeder.
Belt Conveyor: Consists of head pulley, tail pulley, belt, and frame. The head pulley is chain-driven by the lower feed roller shaft, feeding raw materials into the inlet.
Vibrating Feeder: Composed of a trough, base, and drive part, powered by a motor that drives a crank-link mechanism. Eccentric motion generates harmonic vibration, moving materials forward into the inlet.
